Students find out about UNICEF’s Conventions of the Right of the Child.

Purpose: To further students understanding of children’s rights.
Materials required:
- a computer with internet access (for Part 1)
- UNICEF Little Book of Children’s Rights and Responsibilities (for Part 2)
Method:
You may do either part 1 or part 2 or both.
Part 1.
As a whole class (or small group) review the UNICEF Conventions of the Rights of the Child Photo Essays (See http://www.unicef.org/photoessays/30048.html and http://www.unicef.org/photoessays/30556.html) and identify which Articles of the Convention are relevant to Orbit. For example, which Articles refer to the right to be free from abuse?
Part 2.
As a whole class (or small group) review the UNICEF Little Book of Children’s Rights and Responsibilities (see http://www.unicef.org/rightsite/files/little_book_rights.pdf) and discuss how the Conventions on the Rights of the Child have been summarized. Identify the main points that refer to the right to privacy and the right to be free from abuse.
